The Dallas Islamic Center celebrated the kandil; “Night of Ascension (Laylatul-Mi’raj)” on July 8th, 2010. The date marks the journey of messenger Muhammed (peace be upon him) from Mecca to Jerusalem, and his ascension to the heavens from there within one night. The program started with the recitation of Quran and continued with a talk by Imam Nihat Yesil. Mr. Sabit recited a chapter from Mawlid about the night of ascension. The night ended with a prayer and an iftar dinner.

Verse of the week
- O humankind! Surely We have created you from a single (pair of) male and female, and made you into tribes and families so that you may know one another (and so build mutuality and co-operative relationships, not so that you may take pride in your differences of race or social rank, and breed enmities). Surely the noblest, most honorable of you in God’s sight is the one best in piety, righteousness, and reverence for God. Surely God is All-Knowing, All-Aware (49:13).
Hadith of the week
- Jarir reported that the Prophet Mohamed (Pbuh), may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Allah will not show mercy to a person who does not show mercy to other people".
